My friend Linda Bond…a leading DFW realtor…suggested I have June Walker help me create a place where I would love to come home as well as entertain. June asked questions, visited my closet, took me shopping and finally figured out how to pull my bland rooms together in a way I would like it. She nailed it! I couldn’t be happier.” John Cannon

ReArrange YOURS spotlight is on a luxurious Ft Worth Texas home that now offers our client, bachelor John Cannon, a unique and elegant home. John had difficulty knowing what it was that he really wanted and suggested a Ralph Lauren look. The furniture he purchased including a rich red leather sofa and contemporary and eclectic pair of arm chairs gave us a hint. He also made it clear…the minute anyone came through the front door he wanted them to immediately feel the impact of interesting design. John tells us we have accomplished this goal and we invite you to take a look at the changes we made. See how we pulled lovely pieces together by repositioning them and adding color, texture and a unique style that suits Mr. Cannon’s lifestyle and his need for comfort and a design that is built on a vision and a story.

To save money, we shopped consignment and found this Mark Roberts glazed medieval style console with a hand hammered treatment to the legs. We also found a three dimensional metallic glazed cubic frame and mirror and a framed antique one of a kind Kuba cloth. We needed more color so we broke all the rules and placed a nearly wall to wall oriental rug with rich colors on the floor and replaced the black wrought iron lighting fixture with a three tier red silk tube chandelier. The combined impact leads the eye into a great room that sparkles with delightful architecture and cool elegance.

The living room had a gorgeous jewel red sofa with graceful lines. It also included the chairs, a large coffee table placed in an odd vertical position to the sofa. The zebra stools were interesting and made a statement however, the grey walls and fireplace surround and the white shag rug left the fabulous room feeling cold. We took away the white rug and put in a large oriental with red accents that pull the room together. We created an art display to continue pulling the red through the room and the eye up the fireplace and over to the bookshelves. The real art in this room was the view of the gorgeous outdoor pool so we kept things simple around the windows and only a lone horses head on a pedestal adds a quiet touch. Torche lamps enhance each side of the entry and create soft lighting and romance.

jTaking the console and mirror from the entry, we made an elegant but casual dining room that blends well with the adjacent wine room. The stark black abstract art was moved and we softened the look with an old world still life. We used the mirror and the console from the entry to enhance the room and become a server. John didn’t have many accessories and the few things he had were greatly loved so we used items such as the antique yellow side chair and elephant in a way that made them stand out in the scenes we designed.

That abstract black and white art in the dining area above didn’t fit a dining room…however it was spectacular going up the modern stairway to the guest level. What was a huge vacant space became an exhibit that changes with movement up or down the turning stairway.

From nothing on the walls, the wine room now sets the mood of fun and frivolity. Consignment shopping helped us keep our prices affordable and these large pieces filled the space and blended well with the dining room décor.

John decided he wanted his study to have the relaxed feeling of the west. We started with blank grey walls, a TV mounted on the wall and two pieces of worn furniture that John adores. His dog Texas Jack lives here during the days and John also wanted to make this area serve as his study/office/media room so we had our work cut out for us.

The cowhide rug is one of John’s favorite items in the room and we installed shaved and burned style hardwood flooring. The desk chair and lamp were custom made by Into the West and the cornice boards were covered with rich southwestern designed fabric to provide a little punch of color. We rearranged the bookshelves to include art, books, accessories and John’s technical station. So now, the rugged old leather furniture blends right into this lovely comfortable room.

The Master suite was subdued to say the least and the one big challenge was finding a look that would take the wear from the dog wanting to share the bed. Almost everything was gray, white and somewhat dark and sad. So we created a space that looks masculine, can take the wear and tear and be made passionate with a burst of one of John’s favorite colors…red. We carried the red theme into the master bath and now this room is not only sophisticated but also very romantic.

The upstairs guest suite was pretty bland so we shopped and found some great art and a small table that can serve as a vanity. John wanted guests to have a bright and beautiful place to enjoy while visiting his home. Now his guests from all over the world now have a soothing place to rest while enjoying their visit to Ft Worth.

We added a little stool to the vanity so ladies can enjoy a place to put on their makeup without having to stand in the bathroom. We brought in an extra table to balance the wall under the TV. We added some fun art that reflects light and left the private tree-top view from the window where the guests will feel as if they are sleeping in a tree house.

When night settles in, John says he often finds it is hard to become motivated to leave his beautiful home. He says he often stays in simply to enjoy it. It is a great pleasure and source of pride to have a client who enjoys the results of our creativity and labor.

Our next project for John…we will create a club room where he can entertain, tie flies for fishing and enjoy cards, parties and a lot of fun. This time we start from scratch.
